Matthew Brewer also known as Frameworks from Manchester comes armed with a record player and a few instruments to lay most of the ideas down for his new 7” before calling upon various musicians to fill in the gaps. The final mixes were done at studio Nyne near Manchester with Gareth Metcalf. Frameworks is live musicians recorded live, sampled then sequenced over the drum sampling of Matthew himself building graceful and eloquent productions. As a drummer Matthew tends to spend a lot of time on the drum sounds to get the right frame to his musical work. Pure cinematic down-tempo boom bap production at its finest, reminiscent of Bonobo, Cinematic Orchestra, J Rawls’ Liquid Crystal Project, Tosca, Fourtet, Jon Kennedy.

Side A: 1. Fold

Fold is based around a jazzy piano and drum sequence setting a mellow ambiance. A more somber feel sets in with the introduction of stings and Vocal harmonies on the chorus. Kelly’s vocals suit the song perfectly and certainly takes it to another level. The eventual crescendo brings more string and vocal parts giving the track the finish it deserves.

Side B: 1. First Step

This particular song employs a larger array of samples and live instrumentation. I wanted this track to move about a bit with different instruments being introduced throughout. It’s got a bit of a Bonobo feel to it which I like. Again a downtempo track with some real nice sounding double bass and percussion.

Side B: 2. ..Midnight.. and Everything After

An instrumental track creating a cinematic landscape. I’ve always had a real passion for strings and really wanted them to come through on this track. Whilst in ….London…. I was lucky enough to come across an amazing string quartet that performed on ..Midnight... As a whole I find the track really organic and emotive.

Drum and bass lovers need to be bracing themselves for the new Jump Up label, G13, brought to you by DJ Propa G and producer/DJ DJ Rowney. The new label is set to tear up dance floors with their outrageous and ferocious riddims.

The Manchester based label has been under the radar for the past couple of years and have finally blessed our bass adoring ears with this new twist to the Jump Up style. Helped by radio shows Kool London and Krisis DNB and big promo nights, the label is causing a stir and getting our bones shaking to these beats.

With some of the biggest and grimiest artists and producers part of the team, expect sounds from James Bass, Bluefoot, Hoax, High Roller, Butcher, Billy the Kid, Sensa, Ego Trippin, Tyke, Recipe and a few others.

Most recently released from the label is Billy the Kid’s western sampler, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Using a catchy bass riff and cowboy samples from the film of the same name, you’ll defiantly want to gee up to this dirty sound! Similar to the sound of Lemon D, the Kid is a more techno Pendulum but have the same sci-fi sampler ideas.

Also on the menu is Bluefoot. Originally from Torquay this boy’s fast break beats and deep, subby tune Jawbreaker lives up to the label’s dirty riddims. Released back in April this tune is explosive!

Propa G (Ruthless Kombination, G13, Rollin Soundz Records) has been tearing it up in numerous clubs and pirate radio for the last 7 years. His partner in crime, Rowney, (CLASS A, G13, MOTION SENSOR AND BIG IN THE DANCE RECORDS)who has been DJing since 1998 and producing from 2003 specialises in this Jump Up fashion as well as harder DnB and other dance floor oriented tracks.

Working under Nu-Urban, G13 will be spitting out big new tracks and have DJ’s systems on fire!

Since it’s launch just under a year ago, Dub Frequency records the only dubstep label based in Portsmouth, has churned out no less than 15 succesful digital releases from producers based all over the world. The Hottest topic on Dubstep Forum at the moment.   This tune played by Skream in his guest set on Tuesday is believed to be a new collab from Skream himself and Joker.  There does appear to be elements of both their distinctive styles.   Neither of the boys have admitted to the rumours.     So it’s not for definite.

A showcase of Dubs latest work at the forefront of whats beginning to be called halfstep and new experimental drum and bass.   get involved…

Example: So shotty the first time we saw you was in your infamous youtube videos.  Whats changed since then…

SHOTTY:  Ha i was really young then ive lived in the studio for years since then. I put my work in on the Mixtape scene and built up a huge amount of material. Got my game plan and just developed myself as a complete artist.

Example: You mentioned Mixtapes, whats your releases to date and how did your work develop from the first to the latest?

SHOTTY: My first solo mixtape was called “The Contender”  I just wanted to show Manchester i was one of the best here hence the name.  That Showed I had big potential. The second was “Perception is Reality” I wanted to show my creativeness and the innovation in my concepts and song writing.  The third one was “The Beast vol.1″ By then I was just hungry.  I needed to be recording all the time. So I was just in the studio freestyling the whole tape. What happened was I ended up with 53 songs so we just turned it into 2 tapes. The other tape was my 4th one “Martian Muzik” that was for free download and you can still get that off my myspace.   The fifth and latest one is “U C Me “  Which was just me experimenting with different stuff again mainly freestyles and I’m on a highrise mixtape called Headcase. That’s available now for free download.  I got the Beast 2 coming out also I’m on “Skys the Minimum” with Flex hosted by 1xtra’s Ras Kwame.

Example : You have recently signed to “Brute Force Records”  how did that come about?

SHOTTY: It’s down to my circle. I’m blessed because i have a solid team behind me and they can see what needs to be done. The UK is a major force in music, yet we don’t have a solid UK based hip hop label that can do what the mainstream American labels do. So together we made Brute Force records to do exactly that.  They knew i could compete with the best in the world so they put the time and money in to prove that.  The whole project is a massive thing for the UK and for HIP HOP… U.K, States. Its all hip hop. so with BF records we’re just bridging the gap.

Example: You’ve got your debut album “The King Of England” coming out at the end of 2009. What can we expect?

SHOTTY: Wow. It’s a classic already and its not finished.  I got some of the biggest names in Hip Hop featuring on it.  Alchemist produced 2 songs on it. One with Cory Gunz the other with Billy Danze from M.O.P and Joell Ortiz.   “R’sonist” from the Heatmakerz produced a track on there i did with CROKKED called “I love Hip Hop” plus Small World from Ludacris’ label Disturbing tha Peace is on it.  Norrisman jumped on it.  There’s other but you need to wait and see. This is definitely the best work I’ve ever done. You just need to get it.

SUB WOOFAH  New night at The Corner in Fallowfield

Since its opening a couple of months ago, The Corner in Fallowfield has been blitzing us with a huge array of Clubnights.  With a different genre  being played every night it’s impossible to not find one night at The Corner which fits your needs.  The latest of these, “Sub Woofah” is another one to add to your nightlife diary.
Their own music policy displayed on their website “www.subwoofah.2ya.com” proclaims how they are aiming to fill a gap in the scene by providing a FREE multi genre clubbing experience with local big names playing alongside up and coming underground talent.
Everyone  involved in the Sub Woofah Project is working for free doing it for the love of music and  good party.
Their first event in mid June was a big success and this month they’re back with some of Manchester’s Veteran musical talent from the drum and bass scene.  Headlining they have Mark XTC and 1xtras DJ Sappo who produced Example Mix 003.  As well as Hit and Run residents Rich Reason and DJW and members of the Sub Woofah crew hosted by Broke’n'£nglish’s Strategy.  All for Free.  With a night in August already confirmed and events supposed to be continuing throughout the next year SUB WOOFAH is a name which is only going to get bigger in months to come….
