Two years ago Zara Khalique started her own independent fashion label “Dream Factory”.   We caught up with her to grill her on what inspires her…

EXAMPLE: Where does your inspiration come from?

ZARA: Colour, all the things i’ve seen, music, all the things i’ve felt, passion.

EXAMPLE: Where would you like to see yourself in ten years time?

ZARA: Still happy as ever, more experienced, still laidback.

EXAMPLE :  Do you think coming from Manchester has shaped who you are at all?

ZARA: Well, i’ve lived in manchester for about 12 years, and i love it. I think it’s a warm city to live in, people are good, we have culture all around us, and music! also, i love the weather. But, i was born in London, have lived there, in Turkey, in Hong Kong, in Pakistan, so i always feel like i come from all the world, not a particular place. I love manchester though.

EXAMPLE:  Would you say your clothes are a reflection of your musical taste?

ZARA: Of course, my musical taste has as much variety as my work. I love everything, from dubstep to classical, hip hop to heavy metal. I love music from every decade, the 70’s were awesome: Hendrix, the Beatles, Johnny Cash, Bob marley, Bill withers, all legends!

EXAMPLE:   Are there any particular Mancunians who have inspired you?

ZARA:Theres alot of mancunians who have inspired me, from the well known musicians to the everyday people who do what they love.
Big shout out to Aaron De Barra, The Steppahs, Rich Reason, Chunky, Jonny Dub, Broke’n'English, Ruby Ann Patterson, all big talent based in Manchester and they all rep dream factory.

EXAMPLE:  So what’s next for Zara Khalique?

ZARA:  Always got a lot going on, but i’ve been working on a book for the past half a year which should be ready soon. Clothes and things are pretty, but the most important thing to me is helping people make their lives brighter, and i want to spread those positive messages.

EXAMPLE : Is there anyone you’d like to work with?

ZARA:  I love musical collaborations with a passion, i think 2 great things being brought together can always be amazing. I’d work with anyone, because the result would always be fresh.

EXAMPLE:  Was it difficult setting up your own fashion label?

ZARA:  I get asked this quite a bit, but the answer is no, i’ve always been pretty enterprising, when i was 10 i had a ‘zoo’ in my bedroom and a ‘library’ too aha! I don’t do things for the money, money doesn’t matter to me, but i don’t find it hard to be motivated to do what i want because i believe you can do anything! of course, theres alot of work involved, but that’s the fun of it.

EXAMPLE:   What sets you apart from other designers?

ZARA: I guess the fact that i wouldn’t really call myself a designer! don’t really like to label myself anything, i feel free from all that. Oh and i don’t believe in ’seasons’, i think style is eternal, what looks really good will always look tasty.

EXAMPLE:  What are you currently working on?

ZARA: I’m always working on so many projects at once, it’s madness, but it’s exciting and i love it! I’ve been feeling v inspired recently, and been adorning everything i can find big time! look out for all the new df stuff coming up in the next few months, something for everyone, as usual. Also, the book (’Forever’) which i did all the photography for, and i love messing around making music whenever i get chance.

EXAMPLE:  What’s your favourite item of clothing?

ZARA:I couldn’t pick just one, but i have a killer heel collection, and lots of fun clothes.

EXAMPLE:  Do you wear your own designs?\

ZARA:  I do, but not just to promote, because i love them. I’m still feeling the last T i did, ‘Playground’.

EXAMPLE:  Do you have a favourite piece from your collection?

ZARA:  All the stuff i’m working on at the moment are becoming favourites of mine pretty swiftly, alot of work and detail is going into all of them, but the end result should be just right.

EXAMPLE :  Describe yourself in no more than 3 words

ZARA: alive

THANKS A LOT ZARA :)

well keep you posted on Zara’s movements in the future. :) in the meantime check out her website…

We sent our very own Cassie to quizz DJ ROWNEY  co-owner of manchester jump up label G13 Records and member of Ruthless Kombination.        ….

EXAMPLE: Safe Rowney, Propz (DJ Propa G) and you seem to be having a lot of success with your new jump up label G-13 how does that feel?

ROWNEY  Feels good but we’ve still got a lot of work to do, certain releases have had big support from heads such as Nicky Blackmarket and Grooverider but we aim to get the support for all of our releases. We push underground artists and new talent as we think its all about helping and nurturing the future stars of the scene and giving them chances they might not get otherwise..Still got a lot of work to do though, no rest for the wicked eh..

EXAMPLE : Your next release is on G13, hows that going?

ROWNEY: We got the test presses the other day so it shouldn’t be too long, had good support with it from DJ’s such as Sly and Callide, theres a hype about this release i’m getting a lot of people asking me when its out so hopefully it’ll sell well..The other releases have sold well, our distro are happy with us so its all good.

So look out for ‘DJ ROWNEY – DEATH RATTLE VIP / WANKER TACTICS’ coming on G13 around September ;)

EXAMPLE: How long have you been working with Propz for?

ROWNEY :  Myself and Andy met at a rave about 3 years ago through our mate DJ Redeye, we did radio shows on local radio for a bit then started doing weekly internet shows with him and it went from there really. He hadn’t had much luck in the manchester scene, its a fickle scene and not many people want to help you, goes for a lot of scenes round the country though, and he hadn’t met anyone on his level until we linked..He’d been wantin to launch a label for a while and one day he asked me if i wanted to be his label partner and i jumped to the chance, we’re a good combo, hes good at networking and speaking to artists and i help where i can advising artists on production or whatever i can do..We both work hard on promotion too, you gotta stick your neck out if you want to get anywhere…

EXAMPLE:  What else have you got in the pipeline and got anything else planned for G13?

ROWNEY:  We’ve got forthcoming releases from Sly, Harvest (A new producer from Birmingham causing a big storm at the mo), Dr Dub, James Bass, Dose and a few more artists who we’ll reveal soon.. Recently launched G13 Digital aswell which will have different tunes to the vinyl label but still with a high quality standard, we don’t want to slack in any way.
We’re also helping run Hysteria Manchester which is a big honour as we’ve both followed Hysteria since we were kids, so things going well at the mo..

EXAMPLE:  Class A, Motion Sensor and Big in the Dance Records are your other labels can we expect much from them?

ROWNEY:  On Class A i’ve got a track forthcoming called ‘Challenge Me’, i’ve had plays from Kenny Ken, CKB and Sly so i’m really chuffed about this 1..On Motion Sensor i’ve got a VIP mix of my tune ‘We don’t ramp’ featuring my mate Logic MC, this track has been cained all over the country over the last year. Just had a full 12″ on Big In The Dance out recently which has done well, things are going ok. Also one of our mates downsouth called Haste has started a label called ‘Heavycut’ which i’ve got a full 12″ coming on aswell.

EXAMPLE :  How long have you been in the game and what was the first DnB track you heard that changed your life?!

ROWNEY:  I’ve been a bedroom DJ since 1998, i started on Happy Hardcore haha..went full time on DnB in 2000 and never looked back since..started playin a few clubs in 2003, only started getting regular bookings in the last 2/3 years though..tracks that changed my life are a combination of ‘Moving Fusion – Turbulence’ , ‘Mampi Swift – The One’ and ‘Shy FX – Chopper RMX’…i used to play drums before i started djing so DnB was the perfect step up for me, first time i heard those tracks i was hooked…nasty basslines n fast punching beats was what i needed in my life

EXAMPLE:  You’re from Manchester, what do you think of the DnB scene in the North West?

ROWNEY:  Hmm, a bit mixed…its good and theres a lot of variety and nights to choose from but its a battle out there and big nights don’t care about putting the small nights out of business..Compared to London and Birmingham the scene is relatively small so people need to work together more, theres a lot of politics and night clashes but its getting better than it was. Myself and our crew Ruthless Kombination are getting more gigs out of Manchester in places such as Birmingham, London, Southampton and Leeds, but i’d prefer if we were getting more in our home city..

EXAMPLE:  Whats Ruthless Kombination about then?

ROWNEY:  Theres 4 of us, me and Propz are the Dj’s, MC Frisko and Logic MC are our mic maniacs!! Frisko is a well established MC round Manchester playing at all the big nights and hes got a good fanbase round here, Logic is a very versatile MC who can spit on Jumpup, Tech, Jungle, absolutely everything..Both lads are working on Hip Hop in the studio and earning a lot of respect from people who check their stuff.
We currently do 2 radio shows a week on WWW.KRISISDNB.COM and WWW.RUTHLESSSOUNDZ.COM we get listeners from all over the world and are going to tour Canada soon aswell..

EXAMPLE:  Thanks for your time, you got any shouts before you go??

ROWNEY: Yeah theres a lot of people who help us in different ways but i’ll shorten it a bit lol..
Shouts to Propz, Frisko, Logic, CKB, Sly, Callide all the G13 artists, Hysteria Crew, Tobi, Andy & Rich Devolution @ Nu-Urban, Krisis DNB, Ruthless Soundz, Sensa, Haste, Special T, all the labels, DJ’s and artists who support us and give us beats, last but not least my family and all the manchester crew and peeps who support what we do! Salute!

For those of you that havent heard of him.  LUNG is a guy a who we are hotly tipping at example to be a big name in the coming years.  Aged only 18, based in Cardiff, He is the latest discovery of Alley Cat’s newly formed label

KOKESHI which aims to capture the deep and minimal sound in drum and bass and dubstep in its signings. LUNG’s work is very atmospheric and emotional often featuring epic soundscapes designed to fill a room.  His forthcoming release on KOKESHI entitled Afterlife is no exception.  check it here… We caught up with him online to find out what got him started, how he hooked up with KOKESHI and what influences his work.

Example : so Lung how long have you been producing and what got you started?

LUNG:  I’ve been producing my own music, varying styles really since i was about 15… (4 years ago) i used to play in bands and we’d record our demos ourselves… but i’ve only been producing dubstep since january this year,… i dabbled in dnb before that, but it’s only since january that my production has got more serious

Example : For the producer heads what do you like to work on?

LUNG: well im an apple mac lover… i started using garageband, almost accidentally when i got an apple a few years back… stumbled across it and just started messing around with a few loops and things… then i started to get more into production, i upgraded to logic pro last year and havnt looked back!

Example:   Its all about the mac

LUNG: haha definitely!

Example: On your soundcloud page and on dubstep forum people have really been praising your recent deep tunes. Is it a surprise when you log on to see such good reception to your tunes ? How does it make you feel?

LUNG: yeah, definitely, like i said i’ve only been producing dubstep since january and the reaction has been great so far! pretty overwhelming infact! i remember logging into dubstep forums and seeing a ‘lung appreciation’ thread! that was really weird for me! i make tunes for my own enjoyment really, its my hobby, but i’ve always wanted to make a living through music if possible… its great that people are hearing my stuff… the feedback has been amazing! in particular the dj support from a few sub.fm dj’s… Myrkur from Amsterdam who runs the Radical Radio show every friday, I have alot to thank him for, he has played out my tunes from the start and got me a fair few listeners! his support has been amazing! also getting airplay on Mary Anne Hobbs Radio 1 show… that was so surreal, once again thanks to DJ R0byn from dsf for that one, once again much appreciated support!

Example: How would you describe your tunes?

LUNG: well, i do -try- to keep some variation within my tracks

a couple of the tunes i wouldn’t really say are dancefloor material – or at least were never created for that purpose… e.g. Afterlife… but it seems to have had a good reaction when i have played it out… the tunes of mine i tend to play out more are the darker, techy ones… like Fractal and The Abyss, they work pretty well on the floor… but yeah recently i’ve been really getting back into all the euphoric trance tunes i used to listen to when i was a bit younger… i’ve been creating dubstep and d&b tunes in that vain over the last few weeks… i’m very comfortable working in that kind of field… i like huge euphoric pads, tracks with massive atmosphere! i like to fill the room

so yeah… things seem to be going more down that route… there’s a d&b track called Clockwork i’ve recently uploaded on myspace… its in that sort of vain

Example :  so definitely ATMOSPHERIC

LUNG: haha yeah man! its all about epic soundscaping!!!

Example:  i think thats what people are really liking about yr tunes they really do take you away

LUNG:   ah thank you  well yeah, i never really set out to do that… like i said the tunes are more for my own enjoyment… but i’m just heavily, naturally influenced by that big euphoric sound you get in trance music

Example :  definitely those huge breakdowns are sort of missing from dnb and dubstep

Some people online are saying they can hear burialesque sort of vibes to your tunes. Would you say hes someone thats influenced you?

(Personally i think people use burial for anything thats atmospheric )

haha

LUNG:   yeah definately… i mean when you think of burial… in my opinion there’s 3 names people instantly think of… Burial, Skream and Benga… but yeah i’m definately more of a Burial fan than of the other two! i think he’s definately sort of created his ‘own sound’ i know thats a bit of a cliche… but i think its hard to argue with… i dont think he sounds like anyone else…but yeah, Archangel… i definately hold that up there as one of the most important dubstep tracks… its certainly a track that got me into dubstep anyway

Example:  Alley cats signed you to her new label KOKESHI how did that come about?

LUNG:   well,… i put it down to luck more than anything!

i’d had some interest from a few digi labels…one as far as australia…afterlife seemed to be the track that people wanted  … but i waited for a while… i was very excited about the attention the music was getting… but i wanted to wait until i found a ‘home’ for my music… i knew of alley cat through ESP Agency and the Feline nights, i happened to have her as a contact on facebook and one day just sent her a link to my soundcloud page… luckily enough she listened and shortly got in contact with me regarding the label and possible signings! and here we are now… afterlife hits stores in september  im ridiculously excited!!

Example: sick so i guess you didnt imagine in january that youd have a tune on wax by the autumn?

LUNG:    i think the main thing for me though was to wait and find a ‘home’ like i said… but also, alley cat’s experience within A&R, and co-director of ESP, to me that is invaluable, Alicia really understand this industry and to me that was important, its been overwhelming (and very surreal) to have support from the co-director of ESP!

and yeah, definitely, i never anticipated any of this, i’ve always wanted to make a living from music if possible… everything has happened very quickly… im very grateful for the amazing support! We’ve got a launch party here in Cardiff for ‘Afterlife’ with the local night Aperture of which i’m now a resident DJ (that happened overwhelmingly quickly too! haha!) some time in September… the details will be up on facebook within the coming weeks, but it’s looking good!  im very excited

Example:  U mentioned you wanted a “Home” for your tunes. Does that mean we can expect more LUNG tunes on KOKESHI or might you be releasing on some other labels?

LUNG:   right now we’re keeping things very tight and exclusive to kokeshi… im more than happy about this, like i said Alicia’s experience within the industry is invaluable, its been great to have the opportunity to be a part of kokeshi… and yes you can expect more releases through the label

Example: So after the release of afterlife whats next?

LUNG:   well… hopefully sales!! haha!  but yes, a few more releases on kokeshi planned… although i cant give you many details as of yet! other than that… i’ll be starting uni here in cardiff… studying music technology, it’ll be great to have an excuse to do music full time!!

but yeah just more DJing with Aperture (d&b) and Neuropol (dubstep) here in cardiff!

Example:  I can imagine u might start getting booked up once your releases start to get hype around them.

LUNG:  haha! i certainly hope so!!

i’ve always loved the idea of travelling around playing music! to become a touring dj would be awesome!

we’ll see what happens!

Example:: So Finally mr LUNG the question we ask everyone what tunes can you not live without at the moment?

LUNG:  aaaah!

i’ve been listening to alot of break recently… there’s a sort of dubstep/halfstep tune off his album Symmetry called Thin Ice… that is an absolutely wicked tune… but yeah its been all about the deep lately for me… a track by Scuba called Klinik… Also really feeling DJ Madd’s stuff right now… having said that i’ve been listening to alot of dnb lately at thats certainly had an influence on me… tracks like Storm Chaser (alix perez & survival) also been going through a massive commix phase! tracks like Be True and Emily’s smile… i know they’re not recent as such… but to me i think commix’s productions are just timeless! also really been feeling the autonomic stuff… d:Bridge – wonder where, and Instra:mental – No Future… yeah definately feeling that minimal sound

Example:  Thanks a lot fellah and best of luck with afterlife

We’ll keep you posted on lungs release and other kokeshi news in the future :)

One of the newest additions to the Metalheadz camp Data gives us the lowdown on what hes been upto…

Example: So Data as anyone who reads your bio on myspace can see. You’ve been making tunes a while now. Things started to really go big last year when you got signed to Metalheadz. Did you ever imagine being signed to Metalheadz?

DATA: Not really to be honest! I always thought my music would be more of a niche thing, but Goldie and Chris were really into the tracks. I think it was a matter of timing as well, the scene wanted something different.

Example: How did it come about?

DATA:  It was through playing xbox actually, Chris invited Goldie into a game of Call of Duty, I asked if I could send some dubs, and sent along ‘Curfew’. G was really into it but felt my production could improve. I got my head down and wrote ‘Splice’ and ‘Muted’. The rest is history!

Example:   What other Labels/ artists would you say have influenced your sound?

DATA: Photek, Source Direct, Ed Rush and Optical, Matrix, Krust, D-Bridge, Teebee and Goldie have always caught my ear. I’m a big fan of the ‘96 to ‘99 sound.  Outside of drum and bass, there are far too many to mention. I love anything with depth and integrity.

Example:  Recently Minimal drum and bass has being getting people’s attention and a lot more artists are starting to produce it. How does it feel being at the forefront of minimal drum and bass and does it affect how you write?

DATA: I’m still constantly amazed by the response to my tracks. To be honest, I went through a period of really worrying what I was doing, what people thought about it, but I realised that if you get wrapped up in all that, it affects the music. It’s great to finally have achieved what I’ve always wanted to do, but to have it recieved like it has been is unbelievable.

Example :What have you got planned in the future?

DATA :  The Prologue EP on Horizons,  The Brink on Influence, Liberty City Blues on Revolution,  Termite on Horizons,  Kyushojutsu on Cylon…  Reconnassiance and Abstractions will be out by the end of the year, but I’m not ready to announce what is happening with those.  We’ve heard you have got a release lined up on Tempa, Is Dubstep somewhere youd like to experiment?   Well, I make all kinds of tracks, it’s just drum and bass is my main field. I often make techno, dubstep, ambient, wierd little film scene soundscapes etc. I’m hoping to release a few more tracks with Tempa, I’m just putting the finishing touches to some now.

Example :What Dubstep Producers have you been listening to?

DATA:   Errrr, I don’t follow it that closely, so I’m not sure of all the names, but Burial of course, Skream, Benga, Headhunter, Scuba, Appleblim, etc. To be honest, I just download mixes and if I like something I check it out. Oh, Luke Envoy and Breakage have to get bigged up as well, of course.

Example:  With artists from drum and bass and dubstep starting to cross into each others camps. People are starting to talk about a new genre which could form in the next few years. where do you stand on this?

DATA:  I just think all genres in general will be more receptive to cross-genre works like we are hearing. No need for a whole other genre, then we’ll have 1000 subdivisions of minimal / dubstep which we don’t need.

Example:  Where can we catch you playing in the next few months?

DATA:  Renegade Hardware at the End, Fabric @ Matter, Abstractions in Bristol and a gig in Paris which I’m not sure of the name.

Example: What tunes can you not live without at the moment?

DATA:

Sabre and Alix – Javelin
Digital and Outrage – Chromatic
Skeptical – Untitled
Enei and Ost – Echo
Spinline – Irreverse
Stray – Timbre

Thanks a lot data :)

We caught up with “Savory Audio” head honcho  ABZ on aim to quizz him on how he started producing music, how hes finding running a label as it nears the end of its first year and what hes got coming up in the near future.

Example:  So Abz fill us in on how you got into music and ended up producing?

Abz:  Well it was the 80’s, I got into music through my mom’s record collection. 60’s and 70’s rock. Later it was heavy metal and hiphop. Not sure why I decided to get into music I just did. I bought a guitar, my brother bought drums and my cousin bought a bass and we formed a band and learned together how to make music. Through tweaking guitar amps and making demo’s with at first two tape decks and later 4-tracks I had interested in making things sound better. I went to school for engineering after I graduated high school. While at school away from my band I continued to make demo’s by myself using a drum machine for the drums and doing the rest of the instruments myself. Long story short synthesizers and samples gradually replaced the live intruments.

Example: So thats how you ended up making electronic music. You were making Drum and Bass before your dubstep days werent you?

Abz:  It was basically because working with band mates was a pain in the ass and I just wanted to do everything myself to ease the pain. I was looking for a direction for my solo music and found DNB through Raves in the mid 90’s. The rest of the music I heard didn’t move me the same way. The sub bass and frantic drums captured my imagination. That and the fact that the sound was diverse, I liked the depth of the music found in the intelligent styles as well. But before I could produce the music that the DJ’s played I needed to get inside the mind of a DJ by becoming one myself. So my DJ career began in 1996. Wasn’t until around 1998 that I decided to return to production.

Example: How did it go when you returned to production? Did it take you a while for you to find a style you were comfortable with?

Abz: Well style wasn’t really the issue so much as gear was very expensive and not easy to use as things are today. I started out with an ASRX (hardware sampler/sequencer) and a little synth module. I made a few things on that but nothing great. It wasn’t until I started using computers and Reason 1 that I started getting somewhere and many years later before I even became competent with that.

Example: So skipping forward to the present day. Your making Dubstep and at the start of the year you started Savory Audio how have you found running a label?

Abz:  Well I didn’t really have any idea what I was getting myself into when I started the label but it was something I always wanted to do and I had a few artists that I believed in as well as lot of other unsigned material that I thought was being slept on so I began. Honestly I enjoy it more than I even thought I would. It is a lot of work but I am working with people just like me, other producers.

Example: Initially your signings were quite close to home, but some of your latest releases are from producers from all over the world. Including your latest release from CRISPO based in Russia. How did that come about?

Abz: In the begining it wasn’t my plan to become a big international label it was just simply an output for my works and the other producers I am working with. The learning process came quick for me and I began the search for music in the hopes of making the label more than what was initially intended. I distributed the music to a few download sites myself and after seeing that the sales where somewhat dissapointing I decided to do something about it by getting distribution to expand the exposure for the label.  I actually didn’t want distribution (Distribution as in Symphonic a company that distributes the music to 100’s of download sites.) , I was quite content working directly with the download sites but I really wanted to get the music on Beatport as that is the largest site for electronic music. I was told that I would do more sales on there than all other sites combined so I made that my goal. Distribution was the easiest means to that end. I would also like to add that I lot of producers will not sign songs if they won’t be sold on Beatport so getting on was also a way to make it easier to get quality music in the first place.

Example:  So at the moment your starting to get a lot more online exposure are there any plans for savory to go onto wax?

Abz: Yeah like I said, running the label has been a learning process so I want to take that leap in year 2. Also I want to make sure I have extremely high quality tracks to put on vinyl and next year I will have more to work with as I am making new connections daily.

Example:  Exciting stuff!!! Do you feel that you’ve built or started to build a specific sound or feel to savory releases?

Abz:  I sort of have even though I don’t really want to be tied down to a particular sound. I think we are starting to get known for the dirty, techy type tunes but we also release deeper stuff. The thing I’d like the label to be known for is tracks with substance regardless of style or feel.

Example:  Deeper and minimal dubstep and Drum and bass seems to be becoming quite popular can you see this having impact on the scene’s direction. Where do you think it will be in say 2 years time?

Abz: Well I think it just sets the scene up for the next big shift. What is popular is constantly changing and what is good for one guy isn’t for the next so you just have to stick to your guns and do what you feel is right. 2 years from now is really hard to predict. I think the number of bandwagon jumpers will slow by that point and we will be left with people who are genuinly into the style. I am not sure how that will effect the sound. I think that by that time the limbs of the dubstep tree will be fully developed and there will be less cross polination, not sure if that is a good thing or not. I would rather just make/release music for NOW rather than worry about that to be honest.

Example:   what have you got coming up now and in the near future as a producer and a label?

Abz: well nothing is planned for wax yet. I don’t even want to think about that yet. Still trying to do the best I can with digital and digital is the format I prefer these days personally so I would like to see it grow in general. For the label we have 2 releases a month. Yesterday 009 came out. Various artists, artists we very well may see again with solo releases on Savory. Next is a release by Ale Fillman and N:Coder both of which have ties to the area. N:coder lives in Cleveland and Ale used to live there. Then there will be one new release in September as we are re-releasing 001-006 as an LP. After which Richie August has a single that will be huge. In October Depone will have his debut on Savory. I am really excited about where his music is going and the tunes I am putting out by him are rediculous.  As for myself I have a tune coming on on Dirty Circuit (owned by Ale Fillman) called Bad Midrange. There will be an EP on Dubfront featuring my tune Bootleggaz along with remixes of it. Other than that I am shopping some things around. Will be more on Betamorph and Savory in the near future I am sure.

Example: Sick well we’ll keep an eye on your movements for those then.
One Final question. What tunes can you not live without at the moment

Abz: Well that changes by the day depending on my mood lol. Today it is Just For You by Untold. Tomorrow it will be a different tune.

Example : Thanks a lot Abz

EXAMPLE: So Silver for  people who don’t know you introduce yourself and tell us how you started out in the Drum and bass industry….

SILVER:   Hi my name is Dean Fletcher aka Silver from Sonic&Silver,Accidental Heroes etc etc. I had my 1st break djing & mcing for Spellbound back in the early 90’s  at Planet k/Sankey Soap/Dpercussion/Dry bar/ plus loads more places in Manchetser.  We used to be in a full peice band with James Ford(founder or Simian Mobile Disco)Jenna G (vocals)  Dimeoned(vocals) Clive(on bass) Jasper(on keys) me and Inky on the decks plus loads more Artistis came into the band as the years went on Like Mc Tonn Piper Mc Tyga. Spellbound was a family thing for me.  Each month people from all over the North West would come to hear us jam out. From Djin and to me Mcin to Jenna on vocals and so on.Spellbound was all about fun and having a good time with friends and dropping the latest dubplate over a full piece band. It was a turning point for me that made me want to go on and make music more than i was doing.   During that time i meet up with Sonic at a gig in Town and formed Accidental heroes.  Me and Sonic had our real big break back in 1999 when we released “You with me now” on Manchesters own Freeform records.  We went on to record for labels such as Marcus Intalex’s Soul:r imprint.  Goldie’s Metalheadz Label,  4Heroes Reinforced records, Ed rush & Optical’s Virus label and then made an album for Infrared which is owned by none other than J Majik.

EXAMPLE:  You run your own label Nemesis recordings…

SILVER:  Yeah! Thats correct. Nemesis is about breaking new artists and people in the scene plus some old skool headz like myself haha.

We are up to our 15th release now and have been running for 7 years. Our catolouge has some diverse music on there from all kinds of producers from around the world,So do take time out and check the myspace website for all your Nemesis needs haha .

EXAMPLE:  You released a solo album in June entitled DANCE DANCE DANCE what can someone who hasnt bought it yet expect to hear from it….

SILVER:  My album ” Dance Dance Dance” well what can i tell ya……Well i think it has Music on there for all walks of life. Some latin influences, some reggea influences,Techno,Dubstep, etc etc! I tried to not just go for dancefloor bangers but instead try and tell a story with the album.I did alot of collaborations with different producers which was a task and a half but all in all i am happy with the project and how it turned out.

EXAMPLE:  Who have you got collaborationswise on there?

SILVER:  I worked with a few artists on the album expect the likes of Skeam, Jenna G, Digital, A Sides, Le Lutin(France), Will miles(usa)  Miss Sofeye(Miami)

EXAMPLE:  A little birdie told us your looking to start a Dubstep label can you tell us some more?

SILVER:  Yeah im starting one! Not just sure when yet though.Hopefully will be towards the end of the year but i have some bangers lined up from Muffler who has been making some wicked dubstep tunes.Watch this space !!!!!!!

EXAMPLE:  Where have you been playing recently?

SILVER:  South America a lot, I did a mini tour of Europe and the UK  back in march/april 09. But since then mainly been on tour in South America but i have some stuff lined up in August and the rest of the year in the Uk and Europe. So you should be able to catch me around a bit more this time and ill be playing at my fav club in the world “Manchester Warehouse Project”.Gotta love that place its amazing!

EXAMPLE:  Your always playing in South America, how did you get so popular out there and what is the drum and bass / dubstep scene like there?

SILVER:  Yeah i know im allways there…  mad innit? I dunno how i became so famous down there.I guess i was one of the 1st DNB DJs from the UK to ever tour consecutively in South America. Doing places like Brazil, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chilli, Colombia and Venezuela, on a weekly basis and growing a good relationship down there with promoters and club owners which i think has made me one of the most popular acts from Drum&Bass in the Uk,The Scene down in South America is real small but is growing faster day by day.Brazil already had its time for drum&bass but now its the other countrys like Costa Rica,Colombia,Venezuela that are pushing the forefront of Drum&Bass and making shows on a weekly basis and Bringing out alot of people to the partys and turning on the punters in South America to this new found music.South America is the place to be.I totaly love it down there !

Dubstep is still a young scene down there.People have started injecting Dubstep into dnb partys like myself to test the waters.

But personaly i dont think South America is just ready for dubstep yet.But saying that Venezulea has a littel growing movement of producers who make Dubstep and are very talented.

EXAMPLE : What have you got coming up now your albums out?

SILVER:  Next up on Nemesis is the latest in a series of 12s called “Nemesis Allstars”. 1st realese is from none other than Miamis own “Rawtee”.Tracks entitled Battery and Biscayne Blvd and are set to brow up the dancehall and have been getting play from all the top djs in the scene. So be on the look our for that full release out in september.

EXAMPLE :  Will you be working in the studio with sonic again?

SILVER:  Yes! You heard it here 1st. Me and Mr Sonic will be back in the studio working on a new album for “Virus”.No date planed as yet but im sure you will hear big tings from me and Sonic in the months to come from other big labels in the scene ………
